What types of braking systems are there for fishing reels

The braking system is one of the most important parts of the fishing reel. It directly affects the angler's control of the fishing line and the accuracy of the operation. Different types of fishing reels use different braking systems, including magnetic braking systems and centrifugal braking systems.
Magnetic braking system:
Principle: The magnetic brake system uses the power of the magnetic field to adjust the rotation speed of the gear, thereby controlling the speed of fishing line release. There is usually a magnet or block on the side or bottom of the fishing reel. By adjusting the distance of this magnet, the strength of the magnetic field can be changed.
Adjustment method: Fishermen can change the distance between the magnet and the gear by turning the adjustment knob or paddle, and then adjust the braking strength. When the braking force increases, the rotation speed of the gear decreases, slowing down the speed of fishing line payout.
Advantages: The magnetic brake system responds quickly and is easy to adjust, suitable for situations where frequent adjustments to braking strength are required. Especially when anglers need detailed control of structure or water depth near fishing spots, the magnetic brake system performs well.
Centrifugal braking system:
Principle: The centrifugal braking system relies on the principle of centrifugal force to change the rotational resistance of the gear by adjusting the position of the brake pad. Inside the fishing wheel, there are usually several centrifugal brake pads, which can be affected by centrifugal force and increase resistance when rotating at high speed.
Adjustment method: Fishermen can change the position of the centrifugal brake pad by adjusting the adjustment knob on the side of the fishing wheel, thereby adjusting the braking strength. When the braking force is increased, the centrifugal force on the centrifugal brake pad increases and the rotation speed of the gear slows down.
Advantages: The centrifugal braking system responds stably during high-speed rotation, suitable for situations where long-distance casting of lines is required and stable speed is maintained. It also provides better control of large game fish.
Hybrid braking system:
Some high-end fishing reels use hybrid braking systems that combine the advantages of magnetic braking and centrifugal braking. This system can provide more flexible braking control in different situations to meet the individual needs of anglers.
Maintenance and maintenance of brake system:
The effectiveness of your braking system is directly related to the performance of your fishing reel, so maintenance and upkeep is crucial. Regularly cleaning and lubricating the various components of the brake system, checking the wear of the magnets or centrifugal brake pads, and ensuring the flexibility of the adjustment knob are all key steps to keep the brake system operating efficiently.
